Under the direction of the Dean of Health Sciences, the Nursing Professional Tutor works collaboratively and collegially with the Director of Nursing, program chairs, faculty and staff to provide tutoring sessions to ASN and PN students in nursing theory, clinical and laboratory courses to ensure full participation in all components related to Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) compliance/approval and ACEN accreditation, including the development and implementation of the Nursing Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) for the Programs. The incumbent will follow the policies and regulations of the governing institutions, Holyoke Community College (HCC), Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (MA-BORN), and the Accreditation Commission of Nursing Education (ACEN) standards for the ASN and PN programs. Available to work some evenings and weekends as necessary.
Responsible for full participation in all components related to the Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) compliance/approval and ACEN accreditation including the development and implementation of the Nursing Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) for the Programs.
Provides individualized and group tutoring sessions to reinforce classroom clinical and lab content. Schedules testing appointments with students.
Assists students with reviewing subject material during scheduled tutoring appointments and drop in tutoring sessions.
Monitors student progress and maintains progress reports.
Submits regular documentation of tutoring sessions.
Collaborates and communicates with nursing faculty to reinforce classroom, clinical and skills teaching and student learning.
Performs weekly review of theory, clinical, lab and simulation content and conducts instructional, skills and competency workshops for nursing students.
Performs exam reviews for all major exams and final exams for nursing theory courses.
Develops resources to complement course curricula and instructional material, utilizing innovative strategies.
Assists students to develop critical thinking skills and clinical judgment through supplemental simulation experiences.
Researches/develops supplemental resources and alternative methods of study for content review and exam preparation to enhance student success and retention.
Participates in shared governance and attends regularly scheduled meetings for HCC Committees and Nursing Department Committees.
Advises of students, by effectively providing strategies that assist learners in meeting their professional goals.
Maintains clinical expertise in area of specialization with ongoing continuing education and/or field work.
Assists in data collection, analysis and aggregation of student tutoring opportunities, participation and outcomes.
Maintains MA RN license.
Additional duties as required by the college and engages in professional development, college and program orientation process and college service.
Master’s degree in Nursing--eligible for unencumbered Massachusetts license; MA licensed by time of hire; Minimum three years full-time clinical nursing experience or its equivalent within the last five years; Utilize interactive and varied pedagogical strategies including simulation; Commitment to support underrepresented students in nursing; Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Community College teaching experience; Teaching experience in higher education; Bilingual (English/Spanish)
