The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full time tenure-track position teaching Nursing courses. The two-year Associate Degree Nursing Program, approved by the Board of Registered Nursing, prepares students for entry-level employment as registered nurses in hospitals and community settings. Teaching assignments will be available in medical-surgical, obstetric and/or pediatric areas of the program. Faculty will be responsible for supervising students in clinical learning experiences, supervising students in campus-based nursing practice labs, seminar groups, and nursing theory classes in the first or second year of the program. Faculty may have a teaching assignment in more than one course. Faculty are responsible for professional activities such as office hours, faculty meetings, program planning and review, SLO development and assessment, student activities, preparation/research, peer evaluations, and curriculum/instructional development. Commitment to consistent participation on department, division, and college committees and to ongoing professional development is expected.
Master's degree in Nursing; OR
Bachelor's in nursing AND Master's in health education or health science; OR
Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he/she is assigned, which can be met by: a) One (1) year's continuous full-time or its equivalent providing direct patient care as a Registered Nurse in the designated nursing area; or b) one (1) academic year of Registered Nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
Valid California Registered Nurse License or eligibility for California Licensure as a registered nurse, AND
Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
Recent community college teaching experience; experience in teaching reading, developmental and transfer level composition; ability to address the needs of student form developmental through transfer levels, especially those who are under prepared; experience developing and using innovative teaching strategies to meet student needs; expertise with current methodology in reading and composition; successful experience with different learning technologies; experience teaching and teaching/learning online; commitment to Basic Skills instruction; effective oral and written communication skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full time, tenure-track teaching position effective August 22, 2019. The starting salary ranges from $59,503 - $88,193 annually, depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.
