Nemours is seeking a Telephone Triage Nurse (Primary Care), FULL-TIME, to join our Primary Care team in Orlando, Florida.
Nemours primary care practices provide a kid-friendly, family-centered pediatric primary care experience for families in Central Florida. With 17 primary care and six urgent care practices conveniently located throughout the region, we provide quality, professional pediatric services with special attention on preventive care and whole-child wellness.
To provide patients telephone access to a highly skilled and trained nurse who accurately answers their questions and addresses patient medical concerns during regular office hours. To relieve the primary care offices of the first line response to patient questions and concerns during business hours so providers can devote time to delivering care to patients in the office.
Accurately assesses each patient’s condition by actively listening to callers and asking appropriate questions. Identifies emergent situations and effectively transfers life threatening calls to appropriate agencies per protocol.
Provides appropriate and courteous telephone advice including plan of care and patient education to callers according to approved protocols.
Appropriately and accurately documents initial and ongoing telephone conversations with documentation being completed immediately after the call ends.
Places outbound follow up calls as needed.
Accurately communicates information to providers as needed either over the telephone or by routing the necessary information to the provider through EPIC.
Meet expectations for call volumes and call duration.
Contributes to professional growth to self and peers by sharing knowledge formally and informally.
Assists in orienting and training new hires to triage.
Communicates verbally and in writing to necessary health team members regarding patients’ conditions and plans of care to insure that the continuity of care is maintained.
Regularly attends and participates in staff meetings.
Familiarity and use of Barton Schmidtt protocols and other protocols developed by the organization.
High School Diploma required. Specialized (1 year of training beyond high school).
Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years' experience required.
Experience in pediatric telephone triage including giving medical decision making and advice.
BSN, RN or LPN required.
Pediatric experience required.
Certified Pediatric Nurse preferred.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
References required to support experience.
