SUMMARY OF THE POSITION: The Registered Nurse provides health care services to eligible students, according to Standards of Nursing Conduct and the Nursing Practice Act of Washington State, local regulations, and University policies within their scope of certification and licensure. This is an interim, full-time position for 9.5 months.
OPPORTUNITIES OF THE POSITION: • Initiate the nursing process through assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. • Perform health teaching in the clinical setting and advocate for health promotion. • Triage patients appropriately and in a timely manner for care of urgent health needs. • Provide clinical support for communicable disease management, including prevention, evaluation, screening, triage, clinical interventions, laboratory testing, facilitation of care coordination specific to identified communicable disease(s). • Connect patients with need for emergency services to appropriate responders in an expedited manner. • Provide ongoing communication with students regarding their status and report to the Nurse Practitioner. • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient's medical record in accordance with the family educational rights and privacy act (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other applicable state and federal laws. • Document nursing care provided, laboratory results, and patient's response to care via electronic health record and other applicable documentation methods in an accurate and timely manner. • Administer immunizations and tuberculosis testing, in accordance with standing orders. • Perform CLIA waived laboratory tests in house. • Obtain laboratory specimens ordered by Nurse Practitioner/Outside Provider via phlebotomy, body fluids, and H. Pylori breath tests and then process the specimens to be sent to outside laboratory. • Participate in travel clinic program. • Purchase vaccines to provide safe immunizations; maintain accurate vaccine refrigerator temperature and integrity of refrigerated vaccinations and medical supplies; monitor expiration dates. • Purchase necessary office supplies and monitor budgets within the university’s expense management system. • Collaborate with the WSU School of Nursing students and other community partners to administer flu vaccinations to Whitworth students with the goal of decreasing the incidence of influenza in the student population on campus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience: 1-3 years’ experience required, with ambulatory care, family medicine, urgent care and/or college health experience preferred.
Licenses or Certifications: Active Registered Nurse license in WA State; CPR and AED certifications.
