This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 31, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be April 13, 2021, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for providing and directing effective dialysis nursing care to individual and groups of patients for an aging, adult population. Clinically and administratively accountable to the Dialysis Unit Nurse Manager. Documents observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition. Collaborates with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes. Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems. Demonstrates clinical practice and skills, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including sex and sex role identification, age and life stage, state of health, race and culture, socio-economic status, values and previous experience with similar events, in order to assist each patient to identify and meet basic health needs and improve his/her health status to the individual's maximum. Demonstrates knowledge of VA policies, procedures and clinical protocols. Influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance includes knowledge and active participation in unit / program level quality improvement processes, initiatives, and customer service. Takes initiative in developing and evaluating unit level and/or disease specific to standards of care, policies, procedures and nursing programs that guide nursing practice and/or measure performance. Manages Acute and Chronic Hemodialysis treatments are performed by Dialysis Registered Nurses. Set up and checks dialysis equipment and ensure it is operating properly, making or reporting necessary corrections to appropriate personnel. Provides and documents in electronic medical record patient education. Initiates and discontinues dialysis treatment for patients with perm catheters, fistulas, grafts, and temporary accesses per Provider instructions. Must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. Responsible for ensuring his/her actions contribute to a mode of continued accreditation readiness regarding Joint Commission (TJC), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), VA surveyors, Laboratory College of American Pathologists (CAP), and other survey teams. Consistently protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, statues and policy, and VHA policy. Work Schedule: Monday-Saturday availability, rotating 10 hour shifts between 6:00 am - 4:30 pm; 10:00 am - 8:30 pm, with on call (must be physically on station at the Birmingham VA Health Care System within 30 minutes of receiving call). Telework: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: Not authorized Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
