ANNOUNCEMENT EXTENDED UNTIL 7/28/21 A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) within the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is defined as a licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The CRNA functions in the Anesthesia Care Team model that includes Physician involvement. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is authorized to perform the following duties on a regular basis. The CRNA will recognize and report abnormal patient responses during anesthesia to the collaborating physician. In the absence of the anesthesiologist, review clinic hart, perform and document a pre-anesthetic assessment and recommend specific type of anesthesia. Interview patients to discuss type of anesthesia to be used and reassure patient. Administer and manage General Anesthesia. Administer and manage Spinal Anesthesia. Administer and manage Epidural Anesthesia in the following: Placement of lumbar epidural catheter. Placement of thoracic epidural catheter under direct observation oft eh Anesthesiologist. Administer and mange peripheral nerve block. Administer and manage intravenous Regional Anesthesia. Administer intravenous sedatives, tranquilizers, antiemetics, narcotics, other analgesics, beta blockers, vasopressors, bronchodilators, antihypertensives or other pharmacologic agents as may be required. Determine need for and administer parenteral fluids to include blood and blood products. Assist in post-anesthetic care as it pertains to respiratory problems or anesthesia-related problems. Functions a s member of CPR team to perform intubations, and when necessary cardiac resuscitation. Arterial line insertion and central line placement may be performed. Arterial puncture may be performed. Work Schedule: Variable shifts: 8 hrs, 10 hrs, or 12 hrs for 24-hour coverage. On call is required.
