The Patient Safety Specialist is a registered professional nurse, qualified by education and experience to monitor and evaluate clinical and administrative processes for the safe delivery of patient care throughout all applicable departments of the Medical Center through an integrated Quality Management Program that includes Risk Management, Peer Review, and Patient Safety Programs. The Patient Safety Specialist reports directly to the Chief of Quality Management. Additional duties include but are not limited to; Receives guidance from the Patient Safety Manger on overall program and provides leadership in the application of safe patient practices to patient care, organizational processes and/or systems. Contributes to the improvement of safe delivery of patient care, productivity, effectiveness and efficiency in Medical Center functions. Builds and implements safety systems and promote the culture of safety within the organization. Ensures the Medical Center is in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and directives related to patient safety. Participates in rounds, surveys and other local activities. Oversees the process for implementation and completion of RCA and HFMEA teams within the organization. Supports Near Miss (Great Catch Award), and actual adverse event reporting system. Collaborates with medical center leadership including service chiefs and supervisors, middle managers and employees in staff positions. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday/0730-1600. *Workday/hour flexibility required as administrative and/or clinical demands require.
