Your day
The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) has responsibility and accountability for establishing and maintaining excellence in nursing practice, effectiveness and efficiency throughout nursing operations. This includes the implementation of innovation and transformation initiatives as delegated by, and reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in order to facilitate the progression of the professional nursing practice. This requires knowledge and understanding of changes in health care delivery and health care finance, and the ability to integrate that information into the creation of value added models of care.
As the ACNO you need to know how to:
- Contribute to achieving exceptional patient outcomes that are sensitive to nursing care and improve the value in the care delivery systems in which the nurse's practice.
- Identify opportunities to improve the value of care and services to patients and families.
- Facilitate strategic planning under the oversight of CNO and is responsible for the implementation of organizational, care site, and nursing division goals.
- Possess knowledge, skill and ability to lead care site teams that are working toward key strategic organization and/or nursing division goals with and without a direct reporting relationship.
- Possess knowledge, skills and ability to lead change and transform culture through a variety of approaches that includes aligning, persuasion, thought leadership, motivating, inspiring and building consensus.
- Lead organization transformation efforts at the care site in collaboration with medical staff leaders and other care site leaders.
- Collaborate with the system leaders to facilitate nursing research and the application of evidence based practice at the care site.
- Possess knowledge, skills and ability to lead and conduct performance improvement including use of various performance improvement methods and approaches (i.e., Lean Six Sigma, PDSA)
- Possess skills and ability to mentor, coach, and develop a high performing team.
- Ability to establish relationships and partnerships across all levels, disciplines and practice specialties with a matrixed work environment.
Your experience

- BSN or MSN, required
- Masterâ™s degree, required
- Certification in Leadership; NE-BC or other applicable professional certification, preferred
- Membership in American Organization of Nurse Executives, American College of Healthcare Executives, and other professional organizations, preferred
- Current license of Registered Nurse in state of practice or licensure from another state with verification of application and eligibility for state of practice licensure by endorsement, required
- Five years of progressive nursing leadership including experience in clinical operations, required
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate to all levels in the organization, required
