Job Summary
Geisinger Laboratories is recruiting for a Program Director for its new Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Training Program. The position will be based in Danville, PA and will successfully lead the opening of a clinical rotation program and prepare the program for NAACLS accreditation eligibility which will train individuals to become Medical Laboratory Scientists. Our operations are highly standardized across our laboratory system of 8 hospitals and 6 rapid response laboratories including a large network of clinic-based and stand-alone outpatient phlebotomy locations. We are excited to offer this position to direct our new MLS training program, which will offer an excellent training opportunity to meet the increasing demands for medical laboratory scientists. Manage overall operation of the Medical Laboratory Scientist Program in accordance with the policies of the health system and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program certification and assists in the promotion of acceptable academic standards and ongoing program effectiveness through the delivery of curriculum and training designed to develop competent, professional, Medical Laboratory Scientists. Interacts effectively with faculty, staff, students, and other customers of our services.
Job Duties
- Exercise administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for all functions, training, and activities of the Medical Laboratory Scientist Program.
- Partners and collaborates with the assigned pathologist medical advisor to the program to develop and achieve operational objectives and standards of academic practice
- Obtains and maintains National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) Program certification.
- Obtains and maintains faculty appointment in each affiliated academic institution.
- Create, establish, and adopt policies for the program that are aligned with organizational continuing medical education standards and national certification standards.
- Instructs students didactically in clinical laboratory science in the classroom setting; utilizes effective educational methodologies and technologies to provide curriculum to the students; coordinates and supervises student laboratory instruction; maintains technical expertise in clinical areas of instruction.
- Ensure adequate delivery of clinical laboratory curriculum for all disciplines.
- Provides coordination for guest lecturers; student rotation schedule; and clinical rotation sites
- Develops and reports measures of program effectiveness in accordance with program certification standards
- Assures ongoing professional development and continuing education of faculty staff in their fields of expertise, in conjunction with the program's medical advisor.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining budgetary expenditures within the fiscal guidelines.
- Contribute to defining and review of job descriptions for all non-provider program faculty.
- Plan, organize and direct the effective administration of personnel and the student body in accordance with established objectives, standards, policies, and procedures, and all applicable regulatory agencies.
- Reviews prospective student enrollment applications and participates with affiliated colleges and universities in the selection process to admit most qualified students into the program.
- Arrange faculty assignments and ensure adequate number of qualified faculty and personnel necessary for the successful operation of the program in accordance with policy established by the organization and regulatory agencies.
- Evaluate faculty performance on a regular basis, provide feedback and participate in formal performance reviews annually.
- Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide feedback.
- Liaison and maintain good working relationships between the organization and affiliate learning institutions.
- Establish and review contracts with affiliate learning institutions in conjunction with legal services.
- Maintain required documentation and ensure confidentiality of program records.
- Coordinate student's clinical experiences with laboratory disciplines, appropriate doctoral leaders, and any other departments internal or external to the laboratory as necessary to ensure adequate clinical training and as not to disrupt patient services.

Position Details
Qualifications for the position are a medical laboratory professional who has an earned master's or doctoral degree, holds ASCP‐BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist, has three years of teaching experience; and has knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
