This individual provides clinical and clerical support for the operation of Surgical Services and the Anesthesia Department by preparing equipment and supplies for nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists; maintaining necessary equipment and supplies; and other support duties as required.
Other information: Minimum of one year experience in a hospital setting or related area in which mechanical, electrical and/or electronic equipment was utilized. Requires academic or equivalent experience in the following: basic concepts of packaging and sterilization of equipment and supplies; safety care; handling and cleaning of anesthetic machines, intubation equipment, etc.Must complete Point of Care Testing training as part of Department Orientation. Ability to communicate in English required. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.Knowledge of software to include Microsoft Word.
Responsibilities: Maintains appropriate / established par levels of Anesthesia supply inventory in the work room, Anesthesia carts, and other designated areas. Maintains efficiency of Anesthesia machines and associated equipment via daily observation and through coordination with Biomed. Ongoing responsibility to ensure presence of associated Anesthesia machine supply items for each procedure--hands-on responsibility during normal work hours and availability of supplies during off hours. Ensures readiness of equipment for scheduled cases according to specific Anesthesiologist/CRNA requests/requirements. Assists the Anesthesiologist / CRNA prior to and during general anesthesia induction and spinal/epidural anesthesia via connecting monitors, patient positioning, etc. Maintains cleanliness of permanent Anesthesia equipment, disposes of non-permanent items, and cleans/sterilizes smaller basic anesthesia equipment as it is used during normal work hours. Maintains Anesthesia drug cart with established par levels and assists with Anesthesia refrigerator temperature monitoring on a daily basis. Demonstrates knowledge and usage of the ORSOS supply ordering process. Assists the Anesthesia staff with pre-planning of pending surgical procedures--compiles in-house patient list to help facilitate Anesthesia pre-op patient visits, reviews upcoming surgery schedules to determine special needs, etc. Demonstrates knowledge and utilizes established guidelines to assist the Anesthesia staff with the care of Malignant Hyperthermia patients and Latex allergy patients. Utilizes established guidelines to ensure compliance with JCAHO and Health Department requirements regarding the terminal cleaning process for all anesthesia machines/equipment.
