Department Overview

As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Cancer and Blood Disorders (CBD) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) cares for every type of cancer and blood disorder; each type is unique with multiple risk levels that require a wide array of treatment protocols and therapies. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders.

On a daily basis, the APP must provide expert, safe care to patients that may require chemotherapy, biologic therapies, surgery, complex pain management, management of bleeding and/or radiation therapy. The APP oversees the development and implementation of supportive care including medications, physical therapy, and complementary therapies that enhance recovery.

There are many roles that an APP in the CBD clinic fulfills between the hospital and clinic at Children's. These include rounding on hospital service, performing procedures such as lumbar punctures and bone marrows, providing urgent care in the clinic, participating in comprehensive clinics, evaluating patients in follow-up clinics, and weekend rounding.

The current position will focus on caring for our patients both inpatient and outpatient, with an oncology focus, with 8 or 10-hour workdays. 0.8-1.0 FTE preferred. The APP will be a member of a multidisciplinary team including MD's, RN's, APP's, social work, dieticians, psychologists, physical therapists, child life and research.

Qualifications

Education: APRN: Graduate of an accredited  Nurse Practitioner Program. Master's Degree required; Doctorate preferred. Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistants program. Master's degree required; Doctorate preferred

License / Certification: APRN: Current MN RN/APRN License. Nationally Board Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with either the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Current BLS certification.  Physician Assistant: MN Physician Assistant License. National Certification required by NCCPA.  Current BLS certification.
